Ancient Water Supply System and Palace Structures Discovered in Armenia

A massive section of an ancient water supply system dating back to the Roman period has been discovered in Artashat. Pavel Avetisyan, the director of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, shared this information during a meeting with journalists today.

“Essentially, these were aqueducts. This section of the water supply system spans about 1 kilometer, with the foundations of 20 aqueduct channels uncovered,” Avetisyan noted.

He also mentioned that huge palace structures have been found within privatized lands adjacent to Khor Virap, where the foundations have been preserved. “We need to understand how we will conduct excavations in that area since they are privatized lands,” he said.
