Levon Aronian Finishes 5th in Rapid Chess Championship
The leading Armenian chess player, Levon Aronian, secured the 5th place in the men's Rapid Chess World Championship. After 15 rounds of the championship held in Moscow, Aronian amassed a total of 10 points, finishing in 5th position. The title of world champion was claimed by Norway's Magnus Carlsen, who scored 11.5 points.
Other members of the team included Hrant Melkumyan in 17th place and Gabriel Sargsyan in 57th place. In the women's tournament, Elina Danielyan ranked 12th with 8 points, while Lilit Mkrtchyan finished 51st with 6.5 points.
