Tandilyan Reminds Hayk Gevorgyan About the Pollution of the Voghji River
Member of the 'My Step' faction, Hayk Gevorgyan, asked Mane Tandilyan from 'Bright Armenia' during the December 4 session what information led her to assert that there is an environmental disaster in Teghut. M. Tandilyan mentioned that they expected to receive a response from the Ministry of Environment regarding negative associations. They have applied, but have not yet received a response.
“However, one fact is evident: Lori region ranks first in cancer incidence. I simply would prefer not to delve into this area, as it is a separate topic for discussion. But there is a correlation between the metal industry and illness, and statistics speak to that,” said the MP.
H. Grigoryan noted that he does not dispute the connection, but questioned whether it is appropriate to qualify something as an environmental disaster without receiving a response from the ministry. M. Tandilyan remarked that the linkage between mining and cancer is still under scientific investigation, which is a highly specialized assessment they are also expecting from the ministry. She recalled the incident that occurred in Voghji: “It has been quite some time since the incident, yet there is still no answer. Do you consider this to be normal?” she queried, addressing the MP from the 'Bright Armenia' faction.
