We Will Protect the Traditional Family, Whether They Come From Venice or the Moon: Petrosyan

Georg Petrosyan, a deputy from the "Prosperous Armenia" faction in the National Assembly, stated in a conversation with reporters that the representatives of the Venice Commission did not provide any convincing arguments for why the Istanbul Convention should be ratified.

“There is no act that is not covered by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, and ratifying the convention is not mandatory. They claimed that it does not contradict our Constitution and that there is no danger. I told them that many European countries have not ratified this convention and that there is a strong aversion to it,” he said.

Petrosyan added that the European delegates failed to convince them as to why the Istanbul Convention should be ratified: “We will protect the traditional family, whether they come from Venice or the Moon.”
