“Gazprom Is Not Immune Either”: Melkumyan on Gas Prices
The unified market for gas and electricity was supposed to operate within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) from 2021, but it has now been postponed to 2024-2025. This was mentioned today by MP Mikael Melkumyan from the Prosperous Armenia Party during budget discussions in the National Assembly.
He inquired with Deputy Minister of Economy Varos Simonian about what measures are being taken regarding gas price determination. He added that when gas prices rose at the border, “Gazprom Armenia” took on the burden of the increase, although it was already operating at a loss.
“But just like the Lars pipeline, this is not ‘immune’ either. If suddenly gas prices at the border rise to 180-185 dollars, then might there be a question about the overall efficiency of ‘Gazprom's’ operations?” asked Melkumyan.
