Processes in Sevan Could Lead to Irreparable Losses: Karapetyan
The normal annual water extraction from Lake Sevan should be 50-60 million cubic meters, but every year the government submits requests to the National Assembly, and much larger volumes are extracted. Member of the 'My Step' faction, Varazdat Karapetyan, suggests setting a limit so that water extraction from Sevan cannot exceed 170 million cubic meters annually.
According to him, the government must understand that it cannot propose a higher extraction volume to the parliament. The MP acknowledges that this will create difficulties for the Water Committee, but emphasizes the need to activate deep wells, even if it incurs additional electricity costs.
"Because that expenditure, that amount is renewable, while there are now processes in Sevan that could lead us to irreparable losses," said Karapetyan.
