Comment by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson on Mamedyarov's Interview

The spokesperson of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the statements of Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister during his interview with the "Izvestia" newspaper.

Question: In his interview, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister expressed "disappointment" regarding the recent meeting with the Armenian Foreign Minister, also mentioning that the basis for negotiations is the Kazan document developed based on the Madrid principles. Please provide your comment on this matter.

Response: I would like to gently remind you that the "Kazan document" was rejected by Azerbaijan itself. We have consistently presented our principled position and approaches in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, where the issues of the security and status of Artsakh hold primary importance. We are continuously working around our agenda.

Question: In his interview, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister also addressed issues related to the visit of ethnic Armenians to Azerbaijan, presenting a unique variant for solving the problem. How would you comment on that?

Response: The fact that Armenians are targets of discrimination in Azerbaijan is not new to us. Essentially, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister himself confirms this in his interview, acknowledging the existence of a discriminatory policy towards ethnic Armenians, which has been repeatedly raised by other countries and international organizations, particularly by the Russian Federation and the OSCE/ODIHR. According to the Azerbaijani official, the best way to manage the existing discriminatory policy is to make the entry of every Armenian into Azerbaijan a subject of negotiations.
