Meeting between Armenia and Azerbaijan Foreign Ministers Possible in December
We presented our approaches and vision regarding humanitarian aid issues that were discussed between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan during their last meeting in Vienna. This was stated today, October 16, by Igor Popov, the Russian co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, after a meeting with Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan. This information was reported by Artsakhpress.
According to Popov, they also informed about the results of the meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in New York.
“We presented our approaches and vision regarding humanitarian aid issues that were discussed between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan during their last meeting in Vienna. We specifically addressed issues related to the exchange of journalists and the matter of prisoners. In this regard, we have several ideas that we are continuing to work on. Recently, our trio was also in Geneva, where we met with Peter Maurer, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), with whom we discussed these topics. As for the negotiation process, if the foreign ministers of the two countries agree, we plan to hold the meeting in December, within the framework of a conference in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. If there is a desire, we are willing to organize this meeting,” stated I. Popov.
In response to a journalist's question regarding the statement made by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in Sochi that Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan, Popov said that the Russian Foreign Minister has already commented on this issue.
It should be noted that today, October 16, Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan received the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Igor Popov (Russia), Stefan Visconti (France), Andrew Schofer (USA), the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, and accompanying officials.
