Vehicle Congestion at Upper Lars Has Decreased

Vehicle congestion at the Upper Lars checkpoint for cars coming from Russia to Georgia and Armenia has decreased. Just a few days ago, the number of these vehicles had reached 1,300, but now the congestion is around 350.

This was announced today by Armenia’s Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan during a session in the National Assembly. He explained that the congestion was related to inspections, as customs authorities had tightened their requirements and decided not to allow vehicles that were overloaded to pass. As a result, significant congestion had developed because they were inspecting all vehicles.

However, later on, according to the minister, the customs service decided to implement selective checks, meaning that only randomly selected vehicles would be inspected. As a result, the rate of vehicle passage has increased, according to the minister.

Moreover, since vehicle owners were aware that they might be checked and face issues, they have started to load their vehicles less to avoid prolonged waiting times.
