Levon Aronian Reaches Quarterfinals of World Cup

Levon Aronian, the leader of the Armenian men's chess team, has made it to the quarterfinals of the World Cup. According to a report by Armenpress, Aronian faced Vietnam's Le Quang Liem in the fourth round of the cup tournament held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. After two classical games ended in a draw, the grandmasters competed in rapid and blitz chess, where three games also resulted in draws, and Aronian claimed victory in one game with a score of 2.5-3.5.

The Armenian grandmaster has advanced to the quarterfinals, where he will face France's Maxim Vachier-Lagrave. Among the four representatives from Armenia, only Levon Aronian continues in the competition. The World Cup is held in a knockout format, meaning that the loser is eliminated from further play. A total of 128 chess players are participating in the tournament. The competitors first play two games with classical time controls. In the event of a tie, rapid and blitz games will be held.

Aronian is the current holder of the World Cup title.
