National Assembly Passes New Bill for Visitors of Incarcerated Individuals
The National Assembly of Armenia has adopted a new bill aimed at creating conditions in penitentiary institutions that prevent the possibility of infection for visitors of incarcerated individuals suffering from illnesses. The bill was adopted unanimously in its second reading.
The proposal to amend the Law on the Detention of Arrested and Imprisoned Persons and the Criminal-Executive Code was submitted by the Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly.
During the discussions, faction member Taron Simonyan highlighted, "Our colleague lawyers, who constantly interact with arrested and imprisoned individuals and hold meetings in penitentiary institutions, have complained that there are no special conditions established for visiting those suffering from illnesses. This poses serious consequences and allows for the risk of the visiting individuals also contracting separate diseases. This legislative initiative places a specific requirement on the relevant authorities to establish special conditions that will eliminate potential infections."
