Iran Will Never Have Nuclear Weapons, Trump Says

US President Donald Trump stated during a meeting with reporters at the White House that Iran will never have nuclear weapons, and the enrichment of uranium could be "very, very dangerous" for Tehran.

"We cannot allow Tehran to have nuclear weapons. They will never have nuclear weapons. If they (the Iranians) are thinking about uranium enrichment, they can forget about it," Trump was quoted by RT.

Trump also noted that Iran is facing significant financial problems, which are connected to the tightening of US sanctions.

It is worth mentioning that in 2015, Iran and the international "P5+1" – Russia, the US, the UK, China, France, and Germany – reached a historic agreement regarding Iran's nuclear program. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was adopted, and adherence to its provisions lifted the economic and financial sanctions imposed on Iran by the UN Security Council, the European Union, and the US.

However, in May 2018, President Trump announced that Washington was withdrawing from the agreement and confirmed that the US was reinstating all sanctions against Iran, including those on countries doing business with Iran.

The P5+1 and Tehran have agreed to develop a financial mechanism to carry out transactions while circumventing US sanctions.
