Turkey Launches New Operation Against Kurds in Northern Iraq
On Friday, the Turkish Armed Forces commenced Operation "Pençe-3" (Claw) against members of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) operating in the country's restricted area, specifically in the Sinat Haftanin region of northern Iraq. This information was reported by the Turkish Ministry of Defense.
"Operation 'Pençe-3' began on August 23 in the Sinat Haftanin region of northern Iraq. The aim of the operation is to ensure border security and eliminate terrorists and their shelters in the area," the statement read.
The operation involves Turkish Air Force aircraft, drones, and Fırtına howitzers. The earlier operation, "Pençe-1," was initiated in late May in the Hakurk region of northern Iraq. In July, the scope of the operation expanded, and it was renamed "Pençe-2."
