‘Koğ Begon’, ‘Iran’, ‘Anoughregh’ and ‘Grikori’: Modern Day ‘Heroes’ Carve Their Names on the Walls of an 11th Century Church

The Vahramaşen Church, built in the 11th century by Prince Vahram Pahlavuni, is located near Amberd. Essentially, nothing has changed since the 1950s, as people continue to carve their names into the walls of the church, damaging cultural monuments.

This was shared on the Facebook page of Zohrab Yeganyan, an advisor to the President of the Armenian Football Federation, Arthur Vanetsyan, along with photographs showcasing the ongoing vandalism.

It is interesting to note that no similar inscriptions are found on Chinese, Korean, Greek, or Italian temples and churches, either because they are being properly maintained or the society is more educated in this regard.
