Levon Aronian Claims Second Victory Over Azerbaijani Opponent
The leading player of the Armenian chess team, Levon Aronian, has secured his second victory against Azerbaijani Shahriyar Mamedyarov in the ongoing chess tournament in Saint Louis.
In the first round of rapid chess, Aronian drew against Russian Sergey Karjakin with the white pieces. In the second round, playing with the black pieces, he defeated Mamedyarov on the 82nd move.
Aronian leads the tournament standings with 14.5 points, while French player Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, currently in second place, is trailing by 1.5 points.
