Tense Situation in Geghanist: Enforcement Agency Attempts to Evict Family with Health Issues from Their Home

A tense situation has arisen in the village of Geghanist in the Ararat region. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, a group of employees from the Court Enforcement Service visited house number 21 on 2nd Street in the village and are attempting to evict residents from their home.

In a conversation with the photojournalist, the residents of the house, spouses 49-year-old Samvel Gabrielyan and 44-year-old Armine Gabrielyan, reported that, “Early in the morning, without waiting for a final court decision, the enforcers burst into these people's home and claim they are carrying out a legal procedure, stating that the entire family must vacate the premises as the house has been sold at auction. Now the buyer, who is a citizen of another country, has demanded that the eviction be carried out. Who has ever seen people being evicted before the final decision of the courts? These enforcers have come and are insisting on their position. All people want is to wait for the final decision of the court, and whatever the court rules, that is what will be done.”

The photojournalist also reports that S. Gabrielyan owed 1 million 800 thousand drams to one of his fellow villagers. The creditor went to the court, leading to the announcement of the sale of the house at auction. For some reason, the owners of the house were not informed about the auction. The buyer, who according to the gathered residents is Iranian, participated in the auction and bought the house (reportedly at a very low price). Today, they came to execute the eviction, but they faced resistance not only from the household members but also from neighbors and fellow villagers.
