Human Rights Defender on Current Events in Ijevan

In Ijevan today, following clashes between citizens blocking a road and police, the Human Rights Defender's hot line received multiple reports. Four of these reports indicated that people, including families with young children, were stuck in their vehicles on the road and unable to reach their destinations due to the blockade. Two of the reports mentioned that the children were in distress.

One report provided information that as a result of the clashes, police officers and citizens who had blocked the road were taken to the hospital for medical assistance. The Human Rights Defender’s office is in contact with the police. Under the direct leadership of the Defender, the office is currently taking necessary steps within its jurisdiction in response to the situation.
