Pedestrians to be Fined Again: New Bill on Patrol Supervision Under Discussion

Many ideal decisions in our traffic rules and legislation remain unimplemented. For example, the regulations regarding the use of pedestrian crossing signals have been in place for a long time, but a recent minor amendment to the law gave people the impression that a new law was being introduced.

This was noted by Sergey Gharamanyan, co-founder of the public organization 'Driver's Friend', during a meeting with journalists. According to him, fines for pedestrians began in 2010-2011, and the annual fines reached several tens of thousands of drams, resolving the issue on some central streets of the city.

“There are also certain technical problems. If a person does not have an ID, they are taken to the police station, and so on. This means that one action can take up to 2 hours. Now, a new bill regarding patrol supervision is being discussed, which proposes a new mechanism where it will not be mandatory for citizens to have their ID with them,” Gharamanyan said.
