Baku Responds to US Legislation Banning Arms Sales
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense has commented on the legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives that prohibits the sale of certain munitions to Azerbaijan, which Baku could potentially use against civilian aviation in Artsakh.
"Azerbaijan has not acquired weapons from the U.S. so far and has the opportunity to purchase advanced military technology from other countries," an official from Azerbaijan’s military department stated, as reported by Interfax Azerbaijan.
The country's Ministry of Defense noted that Azerbaijan's air force possesses various air defense systems capable of ensuring the protection of the nation’s airspace and providing an instantaneous response if necessary.
It is worth mentioning that yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the proposal by Congressman Brad Sherman, which bans the transfer of certain American defense technologies to Baku that could be used by the Azerbaijani government to target civilian aircraft operating at the Stepanakert airport.
