The Resignation of Judge Nakhshun Tavaratsyan Will Be Decided by the Supreme Judicial Council: Khudakyan
The Supreme Court judge Nakhshun Tavaratsyan has taken an oath to become a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, ensuring the principle of solidarity within the judicial system. This was announced today by the President of the Supreme Court, Ervand Khudakyan, during a press conference following the general assembly of judges.
He clarified the situation regarding Tavaratsyan's appointment to the Supreme Judicial Council. According to Khudakyan, Tavaratsyan was elected to the council on November 8, 2018, as a result of a legally organized election, but he refused to take the oath due to certain circumstances.
“Due to certain circumstances and the atmosphere prevailing at the assembly, wishing to ensure solidarity within the judicial system, Nakhshun Tavaratsyan announced that he did not wish to take the oath and would submit his resignation to the Supreme Judicial Council. Subsequently, the head of the council convened a meeting, to which the judge who had submitted his resignation was invited. The council decided that until Ms. Tavaratsyan takes the oath, his resignation could not be addressed. Today, Tavaratsyan took the oath once again, ensuring the principle of solidarity within the judicial system,” he stated.
According to Khudakyan, the Supreme Judicial Council must convene a meeting during which Tavaratsyan must either agree to assume his duties as a council member or insist on his resignation.
