Felix Tsolakyan on the Tragic Accident
Emergency Situations Minister Felix Tsolakyan said in a conversation with reporters today that he cannot definitively state what caused the tragic accident that occurred in Yeraskh.
"There is a theory that the vehicle collided head-on with a 'GAZelle', after which a vehicle of model 06 also hit from behind, leading to a gas leak and ignition. It burned very quickly, and the rescuers who arrived were unable to stand close, starting the extinguishing works from a distance of 5-6 meters," the minister noted.
He emphasized that it has been stated multiple times that all passenger transport vehicles must be equipped with fire extinguishers. Tsolakyan suggested that it would be preferable for 'GAZelle' vehicles to use diesel fuel, which does not ignite.
According to Tsolakyan, it would be more appropriate for public transport vehicles to utilize diesel fuel instead of gas. "There is also a concern regarding what type of fuel passenger transport vehicles should use. It would likely be better for them to use diesel rather than gas, which would not cause any ignition. A protocol needs to be developed to help us avoid such unfortunate incidents," the minister concluded.
