Accelerating the Process: The New Minister of Justice Against 'Thieves in Law' and 'Zone Watchers'
The 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports that the Armenian Ministry of Justice is set to present a legislative proposal aimed at amending the Criminal Code, which will introduce a separate criminal composition related to elements with a criminal culture and behavior.
In an interview with the newspaper, newly-appointed Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan responded to a question about how he would combat 'zone watchers' and 'thieves in law' in prisons: 'These proposals have been discussed and revised several times. I had little time this morning to inquire about the progress of this draft. It has been mentioned that it is 70-80% ready, and now we will significantly accelerate this process, as I, as a minister, place great importance on the fight against individuals with criminal behavior.'
Further details can be found in today’s issue of the newspaper.
