Livestock Farming Suffers Significant Decline

Livestock farming in Armenia has experienced a significant decline. According to official data, it constituted 3.4 percent in the first quarter. Additionally, the volume of meat production has decreased over the past four months.

The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' clarified with the Armenian Statistical Committee that the production volumes of beef have fallen by 4.9 percent, pork by 17.8 percent, and sheep meat by 10.9 percent. Farmers state that due to the rising cost of animal feed, they were compelled to slaughter their livestock last year. However, due to a lack of funds, they have been unable to replenish the number of slaughtered animals, resulting in a decline in both livestock numbers and meat production in the republic.

To meet demand, Belarusian-origin meat products are currently being sold in the domestic market. Thus, little by little, farmers are being pushed out of agriculture.
