The Case of Meduza Journalist Ivan Golunov Closed
The case against Ivan Golunov, a journalist from Meduza, who was placed under house arrest on Saturday for alleged large-scale drug trafficking and sales, has now been closed. He has been released on the grounds of lack of evidence against him.
The closure of the criminal case against Golunov was reported by three major Russian news agencies, referencing the country's Minister of Internal Affairs, Vladimir Kolokoltsev. He also stated that all charges against the journalist have been dropped and that Golunov will be freed from house arrest today, Tuesday.
Ivan Golunov, known for investigating corruption cases in Russia, was arrested on June 6, but he denied the charges brought against him.
It is worth noting that leading Russian media outlets had printed Golunov's name and calls for his release on the front pages of magazines, newspapers, and websites, describing the incident as a disgrace. The case had gained attention and commentary even within the presidential residence.
