Investigation Underway on the Extradition of Mihran Poghosyan by the Russian Prosecutor General's Office
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed in response to a query from the 'Azatutyun' television channel that it has received a request from the Armenian Prosecutor's Office regarding the extradition of former National Assembly member and former head of the Judicial Acts Enforcement Service, Mihran Poghosyan, to hold him criminally liable. An investigation is currently underway concerning the extradition.
The letter states, in particular: 'We inform you that on April 19, Mihran Poghosyan was arrested in the territory of the Russian Federation in connection with a search by the competent authorities of the Republic of Armenia, and based on the decision of the Petrozavodsk City Court of the Republic of Karelia, he has been transferred to the Federal Penitentiary Service’s correctional facility.'
'The request from the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Armenia regarding the extradition of Mihran Poghosyan has been received by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, in accordance with the terms established by international treaties and with the necessary documentation attached. An extradition check is currently being conducted,' the statement reads.
