Prosecutor's Office Appeals Two Court Decisions in the Case of Kocharyan and Others

The Prosecutor's Office of Armenia has appealed two decisions made by the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction regarding the case of Robert Kocharyan and others. This was reported by the advisor to the Chief Prosecutor, Gor Abrahamyan.

“Appeals have already been submitted against the decisions of the court regarding the suspension of the proceedings and sending the case to the Constitutional Court, as well as changing the measure of restraint for Robert Kocharyan,” he said.

It is recalled that on May 20, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Davit Grigoryan, decided to suspend the case and seek a ruling from the Constitutional Court. The court requested the CC to discuss and clarify the compliance of Article 300.1, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code, and the related Article 300, Part 1 with the requirements of Articles 72, 73, and 79 of the Armenian Constitution. The court also requested an interpretation of Articles 56.1 and 57 of the Armenian Constitution (amended by the changes of 2015, Articles 140 and 141 of the Armenian Constitution) within the context of Articles 78 and 79 of the Constitution.

Robert Kocharyan was released on May 18, with guarantees from the current President of Artsakh, Bako Sahakyan, and former President Arkadi Ghukasyan.
