Why was the Armenian State Flag Displayed Upside Down in Sarajevo? FAF Clarification
A scandalous incident occurred before the match between the national football teams of Armenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first round of Group J of the Euro 2020 qualifying phase. The organizers of the match, held at the "Grbavica" stadium in Sarajevo, hung the Armenian flag upside down, which caused significant dissatisfaction among fans and became a topic of discussion online.
According to Hayk Karapetyan, the head of the Public Relations and Communications Department of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), upon noticing this, the Armenian side immediately took steps to rectify the organizers' mistake. "About 5-7 minutes before the game, the officials lowered our flag and properly displayed it. Of course, during the game, there was also an incident where the flag was folded due to the wind and was not visible at all; however, at least we managed to correct the mistake, and the flag was ultimately presented correctly," said Hayk Karapetyan.
It is worth noting that the Armenian national team lost the match with a score of 1-2. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a midfielder for Arsenal, managed to reduce the score for the guests by successfully converting a penalty kick. On March 26, the Armenian national team will host the Finnish team in the second round of Euro 2020 qualifying in Yerevan.
