Response of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson to Azerbaijan

The spokesperson of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Anna Naghdalyan, commented on the sentence regarding Karen Ghazaryan's detention in Azerbaijan. “Unfortunately, the Azerbaijani authorities not only initiated a trial reminiscent of a farce against our citizen Karen Ghazaryan, who found himself in Azerbaijan under unknown circumstances, but went further and, examining the case of our citizen with obvious health issues in an 'accelerated manner', issued a sentence of 20 years of imprisonment.

We condemn the verdict issued by the Azerbaijani court, which clearly violates international humanitarian law, and the true author of which is the leadership of Azerbaijan.

It is no secret to anyone the real purpose of the state-level hostage situation regarding Karen Ghazaryan, but these efforts cannot succeed. The rights of people living in the conflict zone and international humanitarian law are priorities for both Armenia and Artsakh.”
