Will the Conclusion Favor Lydian Armenia? New Threats Emerge
According to the newspaper 'Joghout', environmentalists have long fought against the exploitation of the Amulsar mine, claiming that it poses an environmental danger. However, it turns out that today, when the operation of the mine has been halted, the environmental issues have not only persisted but new threats have emerged.
In particular, according to the mining company Lydian Armenia, heavy snowfall has been recorded in the Amulsar area during these winter months, but due to the blockade, it has been impossible to carry out the construction work for the system to monitor sediment formation in surface waters.
They argue that this work should have been completed before the snowfall, yet the mine is blocked, the government has not taken steps to lift the illegal blockade, and Lydian Armenia has stated that the Armenian government bears full responsibility for any arising issues related to the deterioration of the environment, water, and air quality.
The government, namely the Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Inspection, has not yet responded to Lydian Armenia. However, sources from the newspaper claim that following an upcoming international examination, Lydian Armenia aims to resume its activities in Armenia, as the conclusion is expected to favor them.
Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that this company reduced its taxes by more than 3 billion 132 million drams in 2018 compared to 2017. In 2017, they were the 16th largest taxpayer, having paid 7.8 billion drams, while in 2018 their tax payments amounted to 4.7 billion drams, placing them 33rd among large taxpayers.
