Film Director Hovhannes Galstyan Resumes Hunger Strike

Film director, producer, and director of the 'Parallels Film Production' company Hovhannes Galstyan has declared a hunger strike again.

"... In protest against the violations of the right of the film director to create and the film production company to operate by the state structures of Armenia, Hovhannes Galstyan, director of Parallels Film Production, resumes his hunger strike on February 3, 2019, at 15:00 and DEMANDS immediate action to:

• A) Resume state funding for 'Grandma's Hair' – the first Armenian-Bulgarian-German film project in history, according to the commitments undertaken by the National Film Center as per letter No. 329 dated November 13, 2015.
• B) Return the funds seized from the 'Grandma's Hair' project by the Minister of Culture's instruction in 2017.
• C) Initiate discussions proposed by filmmakers on a model for effective, transparent, and progressive public management of cinema.

The fulfillment of the three demands stated above is the only and exclusive basis for ending the hunger strike," the statement from H. Galstyan reads.
