Armenia to Provide Georgia with 30,000 Doses of Measles Vaccine: Arsen Torosyan
Health Minister Arsen Torosyan announced on his Facebook page, "In order to assist Georgia, by my order, we will provide them with 30,000 doses of the measles vaccine so that our neighboring country can more effectively and swiftly combat outbreaks of measles, as diseases do not recognize borders.
Yesterday, I spoke with my Georgian counterpart David Sergeenko about the outbreaks of measles cases in Georgia. He informed me that to date, there have been 1,028 new cases of measles reported, primarily due to the fact that many children were not vaccinated against measles in the 1990s. I also learned that the daily reported cases, which were between 50 and 60, have decreased to about 35 per day thanks to the epidemiological measures being implemented in Georgia, including intensive vaccinations for the population aged 20-40.
Fortunately, the last local case of measles in Armenia was recorded in 2007, thanks to the high vaccination rates against measles in our country. The last imported case was recorded in December 2018 in a traveler from Russia, and fortunately, it did not spread in our country.
I urge everyone to receive all vaccinations prescribed in the national immunization program, and in case of complaints, to consult a doctor."
