Risks of Escalation in the Baltic Sea Region Are Increasing, Russian Foreign Ministry Says

Alexander Grushko, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, stated at the Eastern Economic Forum that the actions of the West have created a significant danger of escalation in the Baltic Sea region.

During a session on “Comprehensive Solutions to Ensure the Security of the Northern Sea Route and the Trans-Arctic Transit Corridor,” he noted that this area is currently not only a zone of military competition but also one of military confrontation.

The diplomat pointed out that there is a substantial risk of unexpected incidents of a military nature and potential escalation, including uncontrollable escalation. Grushko emphasized that this situation has been created by Western countries in just a few years. He also highlighted that until recently, this region was the most peaceful from a military perspective.
