Robert Kocharian Issues Statement
This marks the fourth imprisonment of the former president, exclusively for geopolitical purposes. This was stated by Bagrat Mikoyan, head of Robert Kocharian's office, during a press conference.
“This time it is very clear and obvious, within the framework of the orders and conditions coming from Baku, the points of which the current authorities are obediently implementing,” he said.
Mikoyan also read Kocharian's remarks from the Yerevan-Center penitentiary:
- “There is another manic exacerbation of inherent fears and complexes with Pashinyan, while the judicial system serves his phobias. We could lose the country, and it seems the people have lost the instinct for collective self-preservation.”
- “The latest criminal accusation is so absurd that it is hard to evaluate it within the framework of normative vocabulary. Nevertheless, I will try to do so. Generally speaking, in order to present such unfounded accusations, one requires either complete moral degradation, or legal idiocy, or complete subjugation to Azerbaijan's legal system. This is their approach that all presidents of Artsakh should be in prison.”
- “The country has been drawn into an extremely dangerous gamble, placing it at the center of geopolitical interests of major powers.”
- “The aim of the authorities is obvious: to divide society, to create an atmosphere of fear, hatred, incapacity, and doom. These are necessary conditions for fulfilling all of Baku's demands.”
- “Pashinyan is not only surrendering Armenian lands but also breaking the collective will and spiritual values of the nation, which form the foundation of any statehood. This must come to an end, or everyone should start learning Turkish.”
