Casualties Reported Following Drone Attack in Chekhov, Moscow Region: Mayor Unaware of Alarm System Failure
Five people have been killed and another ten injured following a drone attack in the city of Chekhov, located in the Moscow region.
Mayor Mikhail Sobakin was unable to provide a clear explanation as to why the emergency sirens did not go off during the attack and who is responsible for their operation. In response to a journalist's question about the failure of the alarms, Sobakin asked, “Should they have gone off?”
He indicated that the decision regarding the activation of the sirens is not within his authority and did not clarify which body is responsible for the system’s functionality.
Russian sources report that Ukrainian drones struck a warehouse in Chekhov's industrial zone on the night of August 4, leading to a fire.
