We Do Not Seek Its Creation: President Pezeshkian
In an interview with NBC, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that they are fundamentally open to dialogue with the Trump administration, but emphasized that the U.S. has previously failed to meet its obligations and has continued efforts to undermine the Iranian government.
Pezeshkian argued that Iran doubts the effectiveness of dialogue, explaining that "dialogues are often used as a means to topple the Iranian government."
He noted that while Iran does not seek to start a war, it is prepared to defend itself if its nuclear facilities are attacked. "We do not fear war, but we do not seek it either. I hope that this will not happen, as such a situation would harm all parties, not just us," he stated.
Pezeshkian refuted U.S. claims that Iran is attempting to create a nuclear bomb. "That is not true. We are being accused merely to create a pretext," he said.
The Iranian president denied that the country’s position has weakened in the region despite recent strikes against Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Assad regime. "We are operating more systematically and decisively compared to last year. Our country’s security system has become more reliable," he said.
When asked whether Iran could play a role in reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, Pezeshkian replied, "We are doing everything we can to ensure peace in the region."
