I Didn’t Want to, I Didn’t Submit My Candidacy: Andranik Kocharyan

The Deputy of the National Assembly from the Civil Contract faction, Andranik Kocharyan, has announced that he did not submit his candidacy for the position of chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security, as it was a decision he made himself.

In a conversation with journalists, he indicated that he was ready to express his position if there was a nomination, but the process was organized in a different format, and he decided not to run.

Kocharyan stated that during the eight years he led the committee, it achieved significant results, particularly highlighting the reports of the investigative committees studying the circumstances of the April four-day war and the 44-day war.

The deputy also announced that he will no longer be part of the Defense and Security Committee. He has already been nominated as a member of the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs.

“The legal committee also deals with the reports of investigative bodies, the prosecutor general, and other institutions, which are also related to security. I believe my experience will be useful there as well,” he said.

Kocharyan compared the change to the well-known song by Meshchan: “I am changing the pointers.” According to him, in the new position, he is prepared to bring new approaches while continuing to address issues related to national security.
