Starting from August 3, the United States will begin permanently charging a security deposit of up to $20,000 for tourist (B-2) or business (B-1) visa applications from citizens of 50 countries.

According to a statement from the U.S. Department of State, effective August 3, the United States will require a security deposit of up to $20,000 from applicants of tourist and business visas. This measure aims to ensure that foreign nationals do not overstay their authorized period in the United States.

Last August, the U.S. launched a pilot program for visa applicants that implemented a security deposit system. Designed to last for 12 months, the program pertains to tourist (B-2) and business (B-1) visas. It allowed consulates to require, at their discretion, a deposit of $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000, which would be refunded upon departure from the United States.
