Sales of Armenian Brandy in Russia Have Significantly Decreased

In the first half of 2026, retail sales of Armenian brandy and non-sparkling wine in Russia have decreased by 11-12% compared to the same period last year. This is reported by ‘Коммерсант’, citing data from market participants.

Sales of Armenian brandy decreased by 12.2%, totaling 1.37 million decaliters. Armenia's share in the Russian brandy market dropped by 1.7 percentage points over the year, reaching 20%.

Sales of Armenian non-sparkling wine dropped by 11.8%, down to 239.65 thousand decaliters. In June alone, the year-on-year decline reached 18.9%. The share of Armenian products in the total sales of non-sparkling wine in Russia does not exceed 1%.

Sales of Armenian alcoholic beverages have been declining more rapidly than the market overall in Russia. During the reporting period, total sales of brandy in Russia decreased by 4.6%, while sales of non-sparkling wine fell by 3.7%.

Market participants link the decline to several factors. In May, Rospotrebnadzor halted the sales of certain products from three Armenian manufacturers: ‘Vedi-Alco’, the Abovyan Brandy Factory, and ‘Shahnazaryan’ Wine-Brandy House.

Additionally, several Russian importers and distributors, fearing new restrictions, have begun to reduce their purchases of Armenian products. The increase in prices has also affected sales; since January, the minimum retail price for brandy and whiskey made from at least three-year-old raw materials has risen by 16%, reaching 755 rubles.

According to sources interviewed by ‘Коммерсант’, due to the price increase, some buyers of Armenian mass brandy are shifting to more recognized brands or other types of strong alcoholic beverages.
