VIDEO: Ombudsman Comments on Assault Involving Haik Konjoryan's Brother

Ombudsman Anahit Manasyan, addressing the alleged assault involving Haik Konjoryan's brother, stated that the Office of the Human Rights Defender does not have the jurisdiction to investigate the individual case.

Journalists asked Manasyan whether an investigation had been conducted and if there had been discussions with the family members of Nairi Hakobyan, considering the claims of ongoing verbal abuse and harassment, especially in the presence of his wife and underage daughter.

“The Human Rights Defender's powers extend to cases where there is a potential risk of rights violations by state or local self-government bodies. We do not have the authority to handle individual cases, as this does not fall within the scope of the Ombudsman’s powers,” Manasyan stated.

She also emphasized that any manifestation of violence systemically, as well as those forms of speech that do not fall within the framework of the right to freedom of expression, should be excluded.
