Turkish Radio Station Stripped of License Over 'Armenian Genocide' Term Appeals to Court

The Turkish radio station "Açık Radyo" has filed an individual lawsuit with the Constitutional Court of Turkey, challenging the decision to revoke its broadcasting license. The license was canceled by Turkey's Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) after a guest used the term 'Armenian Genocide' during one of the broadcasts. This was reported by ermenihaber.am.

Despite the radio station having paid the imposed fine and fulfilled its obligations, RTÜK halted its broadcasts, citing non-compliance with a suspension order that, according to the station's management, was due to technical difficulties. Turkey's highest administrative court has also upheld the cancellation decision without providing any justification.

Representatives of the radio station argue that this process constitutes a gross violation of freedom of speech and thought, as well as an infringement on the public's right to access information. "Açık Radyo" has announced that it will continue its legal battle, emphasizing that the court's decision poses serious risks for the country's legal security.
