Armen Ashotyans Prison Sentence Replaced with House Arrest
The prison sentence of Armenian Vice President of the Republican Party Armen Ashotyan has been replaced with house arrest. This was reported by his lawyer Ruben Melikyan. According to him, Ashotyan's confinement regime will change today.
Previously, the court had extended Armen Ashotyan's detention for one month. Following that decision, his defense attorney Tigran Athanesyan stated, “There is no justification. I cannot work with lawyers of this level; this is not lawyering.”
Vice President Ashotyan was arrested on June 5. According to the Investigative Committee, the case relates to alleged abuse of official powers and money laundering concerning property valued at approximately 200 million drams. It is noted that the case pertains to events that took place around seven years ago.
