Drivers Are Being Massively Fined: New Decision by the Minister of Internal Affairs
According to the ‘Joghovourd’ newspaper, it has received information that under the directive of Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan, an intensified service by the road police is being implemented. According to the same sources, under the framework of enhanced control, drivers are being stopped without prior notification or preventive actions and are immediately fined, particularly for not passing technical inspection, along with other traffic violations.
A significant number of drivers have expressed dissatisfaction, noting that the control is often perceived not as a preventive measure but as a process solely aimed at imposing fines. However, control measures should not only be punitive but also informative and preventive, reducing the risks of unexpected fines and social tension.
Nonetheless, drivers assert that members of the patrol service are conducting covert monitoring during specific hours and at designated locations, aiming to fine drivers at all costs. In short, in pre-election Armenia, citizens have become 'material' for fines.
