Torchlight March Kicks Off, Turkish Flag Burned
The traditional Torchlight March, organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) in honor of the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, commenced from Republic Square. This year's march is held under the slogan “The Struggle Continues.”
“It seems that the dates distance us from the consequences of that heinous crime committed against humanity, but the recent developments in our history—the seizure and displacement of Artsakh—once again prove that the Armenian Genocide is not a crime committed and completed in time and space, but a continuous crime aimed at the annihilation or displacement of Armenians from their homeland,” reads the message from the ARF Central Council's Armenian Cause department.
“111 years after the Armenian Genocide, we stand in the capital of the Armenian state to honor our memories, to pay tribute to the victims of the Genocide, and to ensure that no new genocide or dispossession is allowed,” said Ishkhan Saghatelyan in his speech.
Before the start of the march, ARF members set fire to the Turkish flag.
