Cuba's Response to Trump's Threats

Cuba is not contemplating the removal of President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the "friendly takeover of power," or a change in its political system in order to "calm" the United States, said Cuba's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, in an interview with Bloomberg.

He added that Cuba has no intention of taking such steps even under the conditions of a de facto oil blockade imposed by the United States. The diplomat emphasized that dialogue between countries should be based on the principles of mutual respect.

Otherwise, if U.S. President Donald Trump follows through on his threats, Havana will "fiercely resist."

"I have lost count of how many U.S. presidents have tried to change the government in Cuba. And we are still here," Guzmán stated.
