Russia Considers Greenland to Be Danish Territory, Says Peskov
Russia assumes that Greenland is part of Danish territory, stated Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President.
Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. However, former U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly indicated that the island should become part of the United States. Authorities in Denmark and Greenland have warned Washington against the annexation of the island, emphasizing their expectation for respect towards their territorial integrity.
“We are observing a very contradictory situation. We assume that Greenland is Danish territory. We have heard statements from both Denmark and Greenland that they do not intend to sell Greenland. We have also heard from Washington that it is developing a financial proposal to acquire Greenland in one way or another,” Peskov told reporters in response to a question about whether the Kremlin is monitoring the situation surrounding Greenland and the U.S. claims regarding the island.
