‘Trump's Path’ May Affect Armenia's Membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, Kopirkin
Russia is closely monitoring the developments surrounding the Armenia-U.S. project announced in Washington as ‘Trump’s Path to International Peace and Prosperity.’ This was stated by Sergey Kopirkin, Russia's extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Armenia, in an interview with the ‘Noe Kovcheg’ newspaper.
“So far, we have only heard this grand name. As far as we know, practical work on its implementation has not yet begun. Our position will be formulated when this initiative takes on a concrete form. Furthermore, ‘Trump’s Path’ may affect Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, as the passage of goods across the territory of the republic is regulated, among other things, by the laws of the Eurasian Union. We are ready for substantive consultations with our Armenian partners on this issue,” Kopirkin added.
“Russia has consistently advocated for the unblocking of transport connections in the South Caucasus, especially since progress in this area was initially based on a series of trilateral agreements signed between the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan from 2020 to 2022. We believe that relevant processes should take into account the interests of all concerned countries in the region and their neighbors,” he concluded.
