15 People Killed in Shooting Linked to Father and Son: New Details
On Sunday, a shooting during celebrations at the famous Bondi Beach in Sydney resulted in the deaths of 15 individuals, including one of the assailants.
Preliminary reports indicate that the attackers were a father and son duo. The 50-year-old man was killed at the scene, while his 24-year-old son was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The attack occurred during a Hanukkah celebration that over a thousand people attended. Police have classified the incident as a terrorist act targeting Sydney's Jewish community.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the assault lasted about 10 minutes. Footage shows two individuals firing into the crowd from a bridge leading to the beach. In another clip, an unarmed bystander approaches one of the attackers descending from the bridge, tackles him from behind, and wrests away the weapon. The assailant then flees the scene.
Currently, 40 people remain hospitalized, including two police officers whose conditions are severe but stable. The ages of the victims range from 10 to 87 years.
Officials have described the Sunday shooting as a targeted anti-Semitic attack. Authorities reported finding improvised explosive devices in the vehicle belonging to the attackers.
