Mirzoyan Responds to Turkey's Foreign Minister's Statement
The Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, has responded to the statement made by Turkey's Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, in an interview with Armenpress. Fidan had asserted that the normalization of relations with Turkey is crucial for Armenia, and that this process could reduce Yerevan's motivation to sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
Mirzoyan emphasized that the establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of borders are indeed important for Yerevan, as well as the further institutionalization of peace with Azerbaijan. According to him, these processes are independent of each other, and even if one attempts to draw cause-and-effect connections, it may become clear that the complete normalization of relations with Turkey could positively impact the resolution between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
He also mentioned that the main principles regarding the unblocking of transportation infrastructure were agreed upon during the peace summit held in Washington on August 8, which include territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, sovereignty, legality, and reciprocity. Within this framework, the established TRIPP route is designed to ensure connectivity between Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, and Armenia, as well as other countries, enhancing regional communication through the two countries.
Mirzoyan highlighted that Armenia is interested in the swift implementation of this process.
Earlier, Hakan Fidan had stated in the Turkish Parliament that the normalization of relations with Turkey is a priority for Armenia and that its realization could lessen Yerevan's motivation to sign a peace agreement with Baku.
