US Launches New Operation Against Drug Cartels
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin has announced the official launch of the "Southern Spear" military operation. The operation is aimed at large-scale drug cartels operating in the Western Hemisphere and their associated armed groups.
Austin stated that this initiative is necessary to neutralize "drug traffickers", strengthen security in the region, and sharply reduce the flow of narcotics to US borders. According to him, the operation will be conducted in cooperation with several allied countries utilizing joint intelligence and military resources.
“We are determined to dismantle the networks that not only distribute drugs but also pose a direct threat to national security,” said Austin, adding that the operation will include airstrikes, maritime control, and the involvement of special units.
Washington is confident that "Southern Spear" will become a decisive phase in the long-standing fight against drug cartels and will contribute to regional stability.
