The Tragedy of Mrdzavan: A Reflection of the CPP's Irresponsibility
The newspaper "Joghovourd" reports: "On February 5, the gunshots in Mrdzavan became one of the most horrifying incidents of the year. On that day, the then-community leader from the CPP, Mher Akhtoyan's cousin, 29-year-old Grigor Ohanyan was killed. Following the incident, 14 individuals found themselves in the defendant's chair. Only one of them, Armen Ghazaryan, known as 'Faz,' was detained. The others, despite serious charges, remained free.
Armen Ghazaryan's mother, Rouzanna Ghazaryan, visited the newsroom of "Joghovourd." She insisted that justice was being distorted and that the real culprits remained in the shadows. 'I will provide names; whom are you clearing? .... They are trying to absolve people from responsibility for murder, but my son is being held in custody,' Rouzanna Ghazaryan stated at the "Joghovourd" office. However, her words went unanswered. Instead, supporters of Valodya Grigoryan were arrested. Grigoryan was known for his opposition stance and fought against the ruling party's CPP candidate.
According to local residents, these developments not only failed to resolve the existing tensions but also incited new outbreaks. As a result, gunfire was heard again in Mrdzavan, leading to two more deaths and one injury. These events underline the state's primary issue: the responsibility of power. If law enforcement had fully disclosed and prevented the murder in a timely manner, no new blood would have been shed.
Today, the tragedies of Mrdzavan are not only a legal matter but also a political one. People simply say that this chain of murders and impunity is on Nikol Pashinyan's conscience. As long as the government does not acknowledge its responsibility and ensure a fair trial, society will remain distrustful and in danger. The story of Mrdzavan should serve as a lesson: not for settling political scores but for revealing the truth."
